Erwin Blumenfeld Modern Print: Natalia Pasco, c. 1944 - 1946

Erwin Blumenfeld (1897 - 1969) is best known for his inventive approach to fashion and beauty photography, however, he considered his career-long pursuit of nudes to be of greater artistic significance. Blumenfeld methodically arranged his sets, often using multiple light sources to cast shadows and project color onto his subjects. Inspired by nude studies by old masters of European painting, Blumenfeld paired classical forms with technical experimentation to produce sophisticated and enduring photographs that have influenced many contemporary photographers working today.
