The Beats by Larry Fink

$50.00

The Beats by Larry Fink presents a selection of previously unpublished photographs documenting a period between 1958-1959 when Fink was living and traveling with a group of late stage beatniks. At the age of eighteen, after dropping out of college, Fink moved to New York City and implanted himself as the resident photographer for a group of poets, artists and writers living on MacDougal Street. The group lived together in the sub-basement of the Sullivan Street Theatre, and, shortly after Fink joined them, they embarked on a road trip together across the US to Houston and Mexico City. Fink writes that he understood they “desperately needed a photographer to be with them, to give them gravity, to live within them, record and encode their wary but benighted existence.” The resulting black and white photographs are hauntingly beautiful, capturing youthful anger, wanderlust and repose.
